VRoxel

Intuitive Design in Virtual Reality | Seminar – BSc./MSc.

Class

The seminar will provide an introduction to a range of digital design technologies, in particular virtual reality, and use them to create complex small-scale architectural assemblies in existing contexts.

The context is measured to the millimetre using laser scans and provided as a digital context for design. The architectural project itself will be developed with the help of virtual reality (VR) on a 1:1 scale. In doing so, we will use small component systems, such as the building blocks made famous by the Lego company, to create high-resolution architectures. The Digital Grotesque projects by Benjamin Dillenburger and Michael Hansmeyer, for example, can provide inspiration here.

The design task is an interior design for a restaurant. It should refer to the existing structures of the building and complement it with furniture, wall and ceiling elements, lighting, etc.

All the design technologies used, such as 3D point clouds, VR design and visualisation, have a low barrier of entry and can be learned in the course without any prior knowledge. Hardware for working with VR will be provided in the VR Lab and through mobile headsets.

The course is taught in English.
