Architectural Data Visualisation | Seminar - BSc./MSc.

Class

Computational design offers the possibility to draw previously undrawable projects and also to describe them in terms of digital fabrication strategies. This liberation from the limitations of projective geometry often leads to a formalism that celebrates that freedom. There is a different side to computational design which has little to do with form but with the ability to interrogate a design strategy and gain knowledge about its impact and characteristics.

This seminar in architectural data visualisation will introduce different methods and strategies to assess design computationally and visualise the resulting data in a compelling way. The analysis will include criteria such as geometry, colour, structure, topology. The different techniques will be put in context of contemporary design and architectural practice before they are learned in regular assignments.

Remarks:

For students with no prior Rhino/Grasshopper experience, it is recommended to participate in the dMA Rhino/Grasshopper skill drills 22.-25.3.2021. An introduction to specific Rhino/Grasshopper expertise and all necessary tutorials will be provided. The seminar is taught in English.
