For my part…

Elective module

Course

From the first depictions of hands in stone age cave paintings to the mass posting of largely stereotypical photos and videos in the so-called social networks of our time, the representation and modification of one’s own appearance at the intersection of personal affirmation and outside influence seems always to have been inseparable from the development of a person or personality.

Since time immemorial, artists in particular have developed a broad palette of “egocentric” works, methods, and techniques, thereby often testing the boundaries of their own physical and psychological capacities as well as those of viewers.

In “For my part…” we’ll use exercises to test what specific modes of expression one’s own person offers the artistic praxis in terms of motifs, materials, and tools.

With this in mind, we’ll start in two dimensions and engage with the many facets of the classic self-portrait. We will then deepen our investigation of the topic by delving into objects and sculptures in three dimensions.

In the final phase of the semester, participants will create individual artistic works for which they will choose their own materials, method, and technique.
