Before the start of the semester, the Institute for Design and Architectural Representation held a preliminary course for the new first-semester students to prepare them for the topic of representation in their studies. The workshop was led by the student assistants Marius Schumann and Marco Schacht.

The aim of this three-day introduction was to gain insight into working with Adobe Photoshop to create atmospheric perspectives from line drawings. The Photoshop tutorials on the dMA YouTube Channel formed another basis for this. Each student received a perspective line drawing of the Vitrahaus in Weil am Rhein by Herzog & de Meuron as a basis, which had to be inserted into an atmospheric environment; in addition, the house itself had to be textured.

With the choice of the Vitrahaus, a building was selected that stimulated the students'' spatial thinking abilities. The many twists and offsets made it necessary to first engage with the building and gain an understanding of its form. The task was thus designed in a way that would help the students prepare for their studies in more ways than one.
