Green Coding

DNA digital data storage is the process of encoding and decoding binary data to and from synthesized strands of DNA. Nowadays digital storage systems encode information as a series of 0s and 1s. This same information can be encoded in DNA using the four nucleotides that make up the genetic code: A,T, G, and C.

DNA is a stable storage and easy to synthesize and sequence, but expensive. Currently it would cost $1 trillion to write one petabyte of data (1 million gigabytes). Its practical use is currently limited due to its high cost and slow read and write times. However, DNA coding has a very high storage density and causes less damage to the environment.

What does a city using DNA-Coding look like?
